Qualifications – Southern California
To qualify for The Long Nguyen and Kimmy Duong Undergraduate Scholarship Program
in Southern California, applicants must be a "returning student" and meet the following requirements:
- Be of Vietnamese heritage and a U.S. citizen or U.S. permanent resident, and
- Be enrolled at one of the following institutions:
- University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA)
- University of California, Irvine (UCI)
- California State University, Long Beach
- California State University, Fullerton
- California State Polytechnic University, Pomona
Scholarship Benefits and Commitments
Scholarship recipients receive both a financial award and an opportunity for professional
development through job training with industry professionals in their chosen field of study.
To support this goal, each recipient is required to attend quarterly meetings with a
professional mentor in Southern California.
To accept the scholarship, recipients must:
- Be returning students
- Be present at the award ceremony, and
- Attend semi-annual mandatory meetings organized by the foundation.
Additional Qualifications
- Returning student
- Vietnamese heritage (for Vietnamese American applicants)
- Between 17 and 30 years of age
- Outstanding academic achievement (minimum GPA of 3.0)
- Strong leadership potential
- Demonstrated community service to the Vietnamese and/or American communities
- Knowledge and appreciation of Vietnamese heritage
- Commitment to creating a better world
- Passion for protecting the values of freedom, democracy, and human rights worldwide
- Demonstrated financial need
Special Consideration
Priority may be given to applicants with unique or challenging circumstances, including:
- Individuals from low- to moderate-income households
- Single parents returning to school to improve their family’s future
- Students rebuilding their lives after overcoming past criminal records
